12 Peers Theater Supports Black Lives Matter
In the midst of a global pandemic, another black life was taken; another link in a chain of unjust deaths stretching back to before this country was established. We see your anger and heartbreak, and our hearts break with you. After so many calls for change, we are in disbelief that these senseless killings continue to occur.After reflecting, we realize that our small platform cannot change the world, however, we can affect change here in our community. We firmly believe that the arts can enlighten, expose, and express feelings and ideas that can heal and improve the world around us. To that end, 12 Peers is committed to continue to hold our board, staff, and artists to actively anti-racist values, to increase the diversity of our board of directors, to build relationships with diverse communities in the greater Pittsburgh area, to acknowledge that our mission of producing works focusing on myth and cultural identity means including all cultural identities, and to listen to and amplify the voices of black artists.The violence that has happened, and keeps happening against black bodies is unacceptable.
