Exciting, Engaging, Experimental Theatre
In March, we announced the cancellation of our spring Mythburgh events and our June main stage production of The Squirrels by Robert Askins with the promise to keep you informed and to return when we felt it was safe to do so. We’ve been keeping a close eye on the developing situation and listening closely to recommendations from the Pennsylvania State Government, and while we are hopeful that things are improving, we have concerns about how live theatre can proceed under the current conditions. We know everyone is looking forward to a time when we can gather together and enjoy one another’s company, and to a time when we can enjoy the art we are all so passionate about. 12 Peers Theater has a responsibility to you and to the entire greater Pittsburgh area, which right now is to provide art in the safest way possible.
As our production timelines get shorter, it is becoming clearer that our 2020 main stage season would be difficult to produce safely and within the current timeframe while maintaining the quality of the work that you expect from us. While we are heartbroken to announce the cancellation of our full main stage season, we know there are many ways we can provide you the exciting, engaging, and experimental work you’ve enjoyed over the past eight seasons, and with a quality that represents the values of 12 Peers Theater.
We will also be cancelling our in person Mythburgh events at Brillobox. Due to the nature of that wonderful performance space that Mythburgh has called home for the past three seasons, we are concerned about our ability to maintain appropriate social distancing measures. But don’t worry, we will have plenty of ghastly tales to tell when the Yinzer Scared team starts their first of many online meet ups. We promise to have more details about our digital Mythburgh events soon.
For the first time in nearly a decade, we won’t be able to open our doors to you, but this doesn’t mean we don’t have stories to tell. There are new ways we can connect and gather using technology that wasn’t available to us when we formed in 2011. While we cannot bring you Mythburgh, The Squirrels or Men on Boats this season, we plan to bring these exciting new plays to you in the summer of 2021 and we will be announcing Mythburgh in it’s new format soon. Put simply, we will miss seeing you in our lobby, in our audiences, and even on our stages. But absence makes the heart grow fonder, as they say, and 12 Peers will return, when it is safe to do so, bigger, better, and more exciting than ever.
